IRONMAN Kalmar.
Race Kalmar on your terms.

Kalmar sends athletes across a bridge to Öland and back after the Baltic swim. It is one of the best places to discover the difference between steady power and steady speed. The wind can take the speed. It shouldn't take the run.

What could you race?

I’m Tom, the coach behind Sense Endurance Coaching. Tell me where you are now and I’ll show you what a strong day in Kalmar could look like.

Let’s build your race

Let’s build your race.

Your age and race category help me estimate where that performance could place you. They don’t determine how fast I think you can race.

Change units

The Öland Bridge changes the clock, not your power ceiling.

On the earlier Kalmar course, the Baltic swim brought athletes into town before a ride across Öland Bridge and back. Wind can make the bridge feel a lot longer in one direction than the other. Hold power and leave the urge to make up time behind you, because the Kalmar marathon and its crowds are still waiting.

Tullhamnen, previous Baltic swim venue

Keep your sea stroke steady in the harbour

Kalmar Sound opens the day with a long stretch of open water. Establish rhythm early, keep the opening effort controlled and let the crowd stay on shore.

Seed honestly. Settle by 400 m.

Södra Kanalgatan, prior transition area

Leave T1 ready for an entire day

The first bridge crossing is exposed on both sides. Hold target power and accept a slower speed into the wind.

Cap power into the wind. Fuel before the bridge.

Öland Bridge, first coastal bike stage

Hold bike handling and watts steady across exposure

The return crossing and final mainland roads reward the same ceiling, not a late attempt to bank time.

Stay aero when sensible. Finish nutrition before T2.

Öland countryside, full bike middle

Keep fuelling when the wind changes the effort

The first of three flat loops should absorb the bike rather than display ambition.

Shorten stride out of T2. Take aid early.

Öland Bridge return, cycling late stage

Bring enough power reserve into Kalmar

The repeated city and waterfront sections are a clear check that the bridge was paced correctly.

Compare effort, not split. Stay on nutrition.

Central Kalmar, full marathon

Begin the town circuit well within yourself

Only make the final move once the first two loops have held together.

Decide late. Save something for the finish.

What to check in race week

Check the August 2027 Baltic swim, Öland Bridge bike route, Södra Kanalgatan transition and marathon turns. Detailed directions come from the 2026 course, so confirm the latest closures, wind-exposed sections, aid and start logistics before making split plans.

Make your finish prediction and I can send this plan to you in race week.

Build the legs.
Practise the decisions.

A finish range gives you something to work towards. The preparation is specific to this race: Baltic swimming, composed bridge handling and consistent full-distance fuelling lead to a marathon that can begin without panic.

I’m Tom. With Sense Endurance Coaching, I’ll build that preparation around your life, follow how you respond and adjust the work as you get closer to Kalmar.
