IRONMAN 70.3 Western Australia.
Your best day in Busselton.

Busselton gives you long views over Geographe Bay and an apparently straightforward bike course. The very lack of hills can make this race harder to judge: there is little to remind you to ease off before the foreshore run.

What could you race?

I’m Tom, the coach behind Sense Endurance Coaching. Tell me where you are now and I’ll show you what a strong day in Busselton could look like.

Let’s build your race

Let’s build your race.

Your age and race category help me estimate where that performance could place you. They don’t determine how fast I think you can race.

Change units

Flat roads don't owe you a quick half marathon.

Busselton Foreshore and Geographe Bay give the half a beautiful beginning and finish. The flatter roads make it easy to confuse a good pace with a good effort. Keep the bike measured, because the half-marathon along the foreshore is long enough to expose every unnecessary surge.

Geographe Bay, Busselton

Swim steadily whatever the bay is doing

The calm, shore-hugging foreshore swim rewards an honest, controlled opening.

Seed honestly. Settle into rhythm.

Busselton coastal roads, early bike stage

Choose an honest effort on open flat road

With no hills to force pacing discipline, it's easy to override on this fast, flat route. Hold your number regardless of how easy it feels.

Cap opening effort. Fuel early.

Forest and coastal roads, later bike stage

Keep the fuelling regular when nothing interrupts you

Finish planned nutrition and hold effort through the remaining flat miles before the two-loop run.

Stay patient. Finish planned nutrition.

Busselton Foreshore, first run stage

Settle into an achievable half-marathon pace

Let the first loop past the Busselton Jetty feel easy, not fast.

Easy first aid station. Check posture.

Busselton Foreshore, final run stage

Hold the plan and increase only when able

Only progress once the first loop has held together.

Stay tall. Choose the last move late.

What to check in race week

Use the 2026 half-distance Geographe Bay swim, 90 km cycling and foreshore run maps. The full IRONMAN shares the weekend but has its own course and logistics. Confirm the correct start, transition, aid and actual sea conditions before race day.

Make your finish prediction and I can send this plan to you in race week.

Build the legs.
Practise the decisions.

A finish range gives you something to work towards. The preparation is specific to this race: steady effort on flat roads and a comfortable first run kilometre are habits, even when the watch shows encouraging speed.

I’m Tom. With Sense Endurance Coaching, I’ll build that preparation around your life, follow how you respond and adjust the work as you get closer to Busselton.
