IRONMAN 70.3 Port Macquarie.
Race Port Macquarie on your terms.

Port Macquarie changes your surroundings three times: the Hastings River, the ocean road and the town run. None is a good reason to forget that a 70.3 has a second half to it.

What could you race?

I’m Tom, the coach behind Sense Endurance Coaching. Tell me where you are now and I’ll show you what a strong day in Port Macquarie could look like.

Let’s build your race

Let’s build your race.

Your age and race category help me estimate where that performance could place you. They don’t determine how fast I think you can race.

Change units

The river gives way to the sea. Keep the effort steady.

The Hastings River sets the day in motion. On the earlier half-distance course, riding along the Pacific brings you back to a central Port Macquarie run. Let the coastal roads set the speed without asking your legs to keep changing effort. This is the 70.3, not the longer IRONMAN Australia course.

Hastings River, Port Macquarie

Swim with the river conditions you actually meet

The protected river swim rewards an honest, controlled opening.

Seed honestly. Settle into rhythm.

Port Macquarie coast, early cycling

Set power before the roads begin to roll

The scenic loop to Tacking Point Lighthouse tempts chasing the ocean views. Hold one steady effort instead.

Cap opening effort. Fuel early.

Pacific-facing roads, returning bike stage

Protect the run as the coastline changes

Repeat the first loop's effort and finish planned nutrition before the two-loop run.

Stay patient. Finish planned nutrition.

Central Port Macquarie, opening run stage

Take the first town streets gently

Let the first loop past Town Beach and the breakwall feel easy, not fast.

Easy first aid station. Check posture.

Central Port Macquarie, closing run stage

Use the atmosphere when there is effort left

Only progress once the first loop has held together.

Stay tall. Choose the last move late.

What to check in race week

Check the October 2026 half-specific Hastings River start, coastal bike road and town run maps. Confirm the transition areas, closures and aid, and avoid relying on the full-distance route to plan a 90 km bike split.

Build the legs.
Practise the decisions.

A finish range gives you something to work towards. The preparation is specific to this race: river navigation, composed riding on undulating coastal roads and a patient town half marathon can happen without copying the full-distance race's assumptions.

I’m Tom. With Sense Endurance Coaching, I’ll build that preparation around your life, follow how you respond and adjust the work as you get closer to Port Macquarie.
