IRONMAN 70.3 Sunshine Coast.
Race Mooloolaba on your terms.

Mooloolaba demands an early decision at the beach: get through the surf without turning your swim into a fight. Then comes fast-looking motorway riding and, if the old layout returns, a run along the Esplanade. The smoothest race wins more than the boldest start.

What could you race?

I’m Tom, the coach behind Sense Endurance Coaching. Tell me where you are now and I’ll show you what a strong day in Mooloolaba could look like.

Let’s build your race

Let’s build your race.

Your age and race category help me estimate where that performance could place you. They don’t determine how fast I think you can race.

Change units

The surf comes first. The restraint lasts all day.

On the 2026 course, Mooloolaba's surf led to the Sunshine Motorway and then back to an Esplanade run. It sounds like a quick day until the surf makes the opening hectic or the run turns hot. Start calmly, keep the bike economical and save your best work for the run. The 2027 turns need their new map.

Mooloolaba Beach, prior swim venue

Move through the surf without burning your swim

A rolling start into a real surf beach rewards a controlled, honest opening rather than fighting for position.

Seed honestly. Settle into rhythm.

Sunshine Motorway, earlier bike stage

Find steady power before the easy speed seduces you

With few undulations to force pacing discipline, it's easy to override on this fast, smooth motorway. Hold your number regardless of how easy it feels.

Cap opening effort. Fuel early.

Sunshine Motorway, later bike stage

Keep eating and let coastal wind change pace

Finish planned nutrition and hold effort through the remaining flat miles before the headland run.

Stay patient. Finish planned nutrition.

Mooloolaba Esplanade, opening run stage

Take the first waterfront kilometres gently

Let the coastal opening past The Spit and Point Park feel easy, not fast.

Easy first aid station. Check posture.

Mooloolaba Esplanade, closing stage

Use the late crowds for a finish, not a surge

The Alexandra Headland Hill arrives late. Pace it by effort rather than fighting for lost time.

Stay tall on the climb. Choose the last move late.

What to check in race week

Check the 2027 surf entry, bike route and Esplanade run laps. The familiar Mooloolaba layout belongs to the previous edition, so confirm current transitions, closures, transport, aid and cooling stations.

Make your finish prediction and I can send this plan to you in race week.

Build the legs.
Practise the decisions.

A finish range gives you something to work towards. The preparation is specific to this race: surf handling, measured motorway watts and controlled coastal running come together without relying on last year's parking or route.

I’m Tom. With Sense Endurance Coaching, I’ll build that preparation around your life, follow how you respond and adjust the work as you get closer to Mooloolaba.
