Challenge Taiwan.
Your best day in Taitung.

In Taitung, the road changes character faster than your race should. A lap of Flowing Lake leads towards the Pacific coast, then a half marathon through streets, fields and seaside paths. Knowing when to hold back matters more than knowing what is around the next bend.

What could you race?

I’m Tom, the coach behind Sense Endurance Coaching. Tell me where you are now and I’ll show you what a strong day in Taitung could look like.

Let’s build your race

Let’s build your race.

Your age and race category help me estimate where that performance could place you. They don’t determine how fast I think you can race.

Change units

The return from the coast starts before you turn around.

From Flowing Lake, the 113 km race heads over Zhonghua Bridge towards the coast beyond Xiaoyeliu and Doulan before coming back to Taitung. That coastal stretch rewards a measured effort, especially when the road rises. You still need to run through the city and along the sea afterwards.

Flowing Lake, Taitung

Swim an even circuit from the lakeside start

A calm freshwater reservoir with clear water and mild temperatures gives you a controlled swim. Settle into rhythm from the pontoon start.

Settle by 300 m. Sight off the turn buoys.

Zhonghua Bridge to Xiaoyeliu

Set the climbing limit early

The road between the Carp Mountains and the Pacific is undulating and genuinely scenic. Hold your planned effort through the rollers rather than surging for the views.

Check effort before average speed. Start fuelling early on the exposed coastal stretches.

Doulan and the coastal return

Keep something for the run, not just the turnaround

As the route rolls through Doulan and turns back towards Taitung, keep the same effort you set on the way out.

Ride the same number in both directions. Finish your nutrition before T2.

Taitung city streets and fields

Let the legs adjust before choosing pace

The run's opening kilometres pass through Taitung's cultural centre and the tranquil Pipa Lake Park. Use them to find running legs, not to get swept up in the surroundings.

Shorten your stride out of T2. Take the early aid stations deliberately.

Taitung's coastal paths

Make the late effort worth the early patience

The route through rural farmland to the ocean promenade finish gives you clear feedback before the final kilometres. Decide deliberately whether to push.

Compare the second half to the first honestly. Keep the finish decision yours.

What to check in race week

Check the 2027 half-distance swim layout at Flowing Lake. An older half-specific description uses one lap, but a general event page describes two without identifying the distance. Use the half-specific bike course rather than borrowing the full-distance loops, then confirm the Doulan turnaround, city transition, run aid and coastal conditions.

Build the legs.
Practise the decisions.

A finish range gives you something to work towards. The preparation is specific to this race: rolling coastal power feels measured enough to begin the city run patiently, with the strength to hold form when the half marathon reaches the coast.

I’m Tom. With Sense Endurance Coaching, I’ll build that preparation around your life, follow how you respond and adjust the work as you get closer to Taitung.
