Race Intelligence · Sir Bani Yas Island, United Arab Emirates
Challenge Sir Bani Yas. Race Sir Bani Yas on your terms.
An island swim, a fast-looking ring road and a few inland rises: Sir Bani Yas looks like a race where you can settle into a rhythm. But first, make sure the distance on your plan matches the distance on the course.

The course behind your race
Set the distance. Then make the island yours.
After the sea swim, the outer island road can make your speed look effortless. The interior connectors have rises of their own, and the run brings you back towards the coast. The interesting question is not how fast the ring road feels. It is whether you save enough for the later choices. The exact 2027 bike and run distances still need settling before you choose split targets.
01Sir Bani Yas southeast coast, 1.9 km swim
Find a measured rhythm off the island
A course protected from swells on the island's southeast side gives you calm, controlled water. Settle into rhythm early.
Settle by 300 m. Sight off fixed island landmarks.
02Island ring road, earlier bike stage
Use flat perimeter roads to establish control
The traffic-free ring road is mostly flat and fast. Ride it to your planned power rather than letting the smooth surface tempt you into overspeed.
Check effort before average speed. Start fuelling early on the flat stretches.
03Island interior connectors, bike middle
Cap climbing effort despite unknown total kilometres
The interior connecting roads climb up to 100 m above sea level. Hold your planned effort through these sections rather than assuming the whole course is flat.
Cap effort on the interior climbs. Finish your nutrition before T2.
04Island cycling finish, route unverified
Avoid pacing to the wrong 82-or-90-km finish
Multiple flat loops through the race village put hydration and crowd support close at hand. Use the early loops to convert bike legs into running legs.
Shorten your stride out of T2. Take advantage of frequent aid stations.
05Coastal race village run, distance unverified
Run to the actual organiser total, not a guessed half marathon
The race village's fans and atmosphere are close throughout. Use the energy without letting it dictate your pace.
Compare each loop to the one before it honestly. Keep the finish decision yours.
What to check in race week
Before you travel, check which course the 2027 race will actually use: one official description gives 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running, another gives 82 km and 19.5 km. Confirm the distance behind your forecast, ferry arrangements, swim buoys, inland bike climbs, turnarounds and aid.

Prepare for Sir Bani Yas
Build the legs. Practise the decisions.
A finish range gives you something to work towards. The preparation is specific to this race: effort on the sea swim, ring road and inland rises is practised without confusing course-specific distance uncertainty with an athlete's lack of preparation.
