01Lake Thun, full-distance swim
Keep the alpine-lake start smooth
The single loop in Lake Thun gives you the cleanest part of the day first. Find breathing and rhythm early instead of trying to create time before the course becomes expensive.
Seed honestly. Settle early.
02Road towards Spiez, first bike section
Set a long-course limit before the hills
Fresh legs make the first Alpine loop feel more generous than it is. Cap the climbs at an effort you are willing to repeat after ninety kilometres and let the descents reduce cost rather than become another target.
Cap power uphill. Fuel before the climbs.
03Gürbetal and Gantrisch area, bike middle
Leave effort in reserve for the second circuit
The second loop is the real audit of the first. Keep the same sustainable climbing ceiling, accept any loss of speed that comes with fatigue, and finish the nutrition job before the three-loop run begins.
Stay patient. Finish planned fuel.
04Thun return roads, later bike
Continue fuelling rather than defending lap time
The first pass through Thun should tell you what the bike left, not prove what the marathon target was. Keep stride and breathing controlled as the course changes rhythm around the bridges and lakeside sections.
Easy first aid station. Stay tall.
05Schadau Castle park, opening marathon
Find comfortable legs on lap one
The repeated route gives you comparison points. Add effort only when posture, breathing and pace still support it; otherwise keep the strongest sustainable rhythm and let the final loop, not the first, become the race.
Shorten stride on bridges. Choose the last move late.
