IRONMAN Penghu.
Your best day in Penghu.

Penghu's bridges offer extraordinary views. They can also make a manageable ride feel expensive in the wind. The second hour of the bike should not depend on how hard you fought the first crossing.

What could you race?

I’m Tom, the coach behind Sense Endurance Coaching. Tell me where you are now and I’ll show you what a strong day in Penghu could look like.

Let’s build your race

Let’s build your race.

Your age and race category help me estimate where that performance could place you. They don’t determine how fast I think you can race.

Change units

The wind can own the speed. You keep the effort.

Shili Beach opens the earlier Penghu full course, followed by a long ride over Penghu Great Bridge and the islands beyond. The sea views are exceptional, but that bridge can make the wind feel like a second climb. Keep power sensible in both directions and leave your resolve for the marathon. The 2027 turns still need confirmation.

Shili Beach, previous full swim start

Start the sea swim without fighting the first waves

Two counter-clockwise triangular laps, with a beach exit and re-entry between them, are straightforward to navigate. Use the calm start to settle before the bike's real test begins.

Settle by 400 m. Use the lap break to reset smoothly.

Penghu coastal swim, return to shore

Keep the full 3.8 km economical

Riding out via routes 201, 204, 11 and 12 past Guoye Elementary and Husi Junior High, set the power number you intend to hold once the wind picks up on the bridge crossings ahead.

Cap power before the bridge, not on it. Fuel early while conditions are calmer.

Penghu Great Bridge, earlier bike route

Keep the bike stable in any crosswind

Route 203 crosses the Penghu Great Bridge three times between two turnarounds, the course's most wind-exposed section. Ride to a power number, not a speed target, and expect that number to buy less speed than usual here.

Ride the crosswind on power, not speed. Stay low and steady through gusts.

Siyu township, prior repeated bike sections

Hold planned watts instead of defending speed

Passing Tianjun Temple toward T2, hold your discipline through the closing kilometres rather than chasing back time the wind took from you earlier.

Finish nutrition before T2. Resist the urge to force pace after the bridge.

Penghu island roads, later cycling stage

Keep nutrition steady after hours of exposure

The run passes Guanyinting Recreation Area and the Xiying Rainbow Bridge on largely flat terrain, a welcome change after the bike's wind. Open conservatively regardless of the relief.

Shorten stride out of T2. Hold opening pace for the first few kilometres.

Penghu bike return, final section

Bring controlled effort into T2

Passing the world's tallest bronze Matsu statue and through the downtown hotel area, use these fixed points to check pace against your plan.

Check pace at each landmark. Keep taking aid on schedule.

Penghu marathon, opening stage pending

Let the running legs arrive before choosing pace

Completing the A-B and C-H lap-band segments a second time, this is where the cumulative cost of the bike's crosswinds starts to show. Manage the effort you actually have.

Reassess goal pace honestly. Keep hydrating on schedule.

Penghu marathon, final stage pending

Use the remaining energy without chasing the wind's cost

The finish at Penghu's Third Fishing Port International Plaza rewards a bike that respected the wind and a run paced across all four lap-band segments.

Decide the finish honestly. Collect the final lap band before the finish chute.

What to check in race week

Confirm the 2027 Shili Beach swim, Penghu Great Bridge bike route, full marathon and cutoffs. The detailed Siyu circuits come from 2026 and may change. Check bridge controls, wind-exposed sections, transitions and aid before planning lap splits.

Build the legs.
Practise the decisions.

A finish range gives you something to work towards. The preparation is specific to this race: calm sea swimming and wind-tolerant long-course power are rehearsed so the marathon is not lost on the island bridge.
