IRONMAN 70.3 Victoria.
Your best day in Victoria.

Victoria's course has a lake beginning and a trail-running finish, separated by hills across several municipalities. You don't need a current map to know that over-riding those hills will make the last kilometres harder. You do need the map before promising exactly where those kilometres go.

Let’s build your race

Let’s build your race.

Your age and race category help me estimate where that performance could place you. They don’t determine how fast I think you can race.

Change units

The lake trails only reward the bike you can run off.

An earlier Victoria course starts at Elk Lake, crosses the rolling roads of several municipalities and brings you back to trails around Elk and Beaver lakes. Save your best bike efforts for training. The run rewards an athlete who can change rhythm on hills without chasing every rise. The exact 2027 turns remain unconfirmed.

Elk Lake, historical Hamsterly Beach start

Take time to establish a long, even swim stroke

Establish a sustainable rhythm in Elk Lake.

Seed honestly. Settle into rhythm.

Victoria hills, bike route awaiting 2027 map

Ride the climbs by sustainable power instead of speed

Use planned effort through the hills rather than chasing a constant speed.

Hold planned effort. Fuel consistently.

Elk and Beaver Lake park trails, past run route

Settle your footing before chasing a late split

Start controlled and progress only when earned.

Easy first aid station. Stay tall.

What to check in race week

Check the current Elk Lake swim and beach access, bike roads, trail surfaces and run laps before relying on older maps. The detailed Hamsterly Beach and Lochside Drive references are from a past edition. Confirm transitions, closures and aid for the race you are actually entering.

Build the legs.
Practise the decisions.

A finish range gives you something to work towards. The preparation is specific to this race: controlled lake swimming and restraint on hills leave the athlete able to run the park trails consistently, even if the updated route changes.

I’m Tom. With Sense Endurance Coaching, I’ll build that preparation around your life, follow how you respond and adjust the work as you get closer to Victoria.
