IRONMAN 70.3 Muskoka.
Your best day in Huntsville.

Muskoka is made for triathlon: lakes, forest roads and a run back into Huntsville. It is also a race where the bike can make an eager athlete pay, especially if every rise becomes a chance to surge. Start with the right lake, then save something for the run.

Huntsville, Lake Vernon.

What could you race?

I’m Tom, the coach behind Sense Endurance Coaching. Tell me where you are now and I’ll show you what a strong day in Huntsville could look like.

Let’s build your race

Let’s build your race.

Your age and race category help me estimate where that performance could place you. They don’t determine how fast I think you can race.

Change units

The Lake of Bays ride should leave you ready for Huntsville.

Earlier courses took riders around Lake of Bays through Dwight, Dorset and Baysville before finishing on foot in Huntsville. That is a demanding enough day without borrowing somebody else's swim venue. Fairy Lake and Peninsula Lake both appear in current material; the 2027 start needs to be settled before you travel.

Fairy or Peninsula Lake, swim venue unresolved

Don't plan the swim exit until the actual lake is confirmed

Settle into rhythm before committing to pace.

Seed honestly. Settle into rhythm.

Dwight direction, previous bike circuit

Keep the early bike effort below the cost of climbing

Muskoka's hilly terrain rewards steady effort over racing each rise.

Cap opening effort. Fuel early.

Dorset and Baysville, previous cycling corridor

Fuel steadily through the lake-country roads

Finish planned nutrition and hold effort through the remaining hills.

Stay patient. Finish planned nutrition.

Downtown Huntsville, provisional run start

Let the first streets restore your stride

Let the wooded trail opening feel easy, not fast.

Easy first aid station. Check posture.

Huntsville run finish, precise route pending

Use the town atmosphere only when it helps

Only progress once the first half has held together.

Stay tall. Choose the last move late.

What to check in race week

Confirm whether the 2027 swim is at Fairy Lake or Peninsula Lake; available descriptions conflict. Once the venue is settled, check the Lake of Bays bike loop, Huntsville run, transitions, access and aid. Don't use an older map to decide where to park or rack the bike.

Make your finish prediction and I can send this plan to you in race week.

Build the legs.
Practise the decisions.

A finish range gives you something to work towards. The preparation is specific to this race: the correct lake start is known, riding around Lake of Bays stays within sustainable power and the town half marathon begins calmly.

I’m Tom. With Sense Endurance Coaching, I’ll build that preparation around your life, follow how you respond and adjust the work as you get closer to Huntsville.
