Challenge Almere-Amsterdam.
Race Almere on your terms.

A sheltered Weerwater swim, ninety-four kilometres of open polder and two flat laps back through the city. With almost no climbing to manage, wind and restraint become the whole bike problem.

What could you race?

Let’s build your race

Let’s build your race.

Your age and race category help me estimate where that performance could place you. They don’t determine how fast I think you can race.

Change units

On a course this flat, the wind becomes the hill.

Almere removes the obvious difficulty and leaves execution exposed. Let speed move with the wind, then use the crowd on the run to hold your plan rather than set it.

Weerwater, Esplanade swim start

Settle your breathing before the counterclockwise lake circuit

A single counterclockwise loop in calm city water gives you a straightforward swim. Settle into your pace early and use the clean sighting lines rather than the field around you to hold it.

Settle by 300 m. Sight off the buoy line, not other swimmers.

Lumièrepark towards Almere Haven

Start fuelling before the exposed polder

The course moves quickly from Lumierepark onto Flevoland's flat, open polder roads. Use the early kilometres to settle position and start fuelling before wind becomes the deciding factor.

Start drinking before the open roads. Check effort before average speed.

IJmeer dike towards Lelystad

Let the wind change your speed, not your watts

Out on Flevoland's open polder, the wind can make the same watts look either brilliant or disappointing. Don't judge your riding by the speed. Hold the effort you chose and think of the extra four kilometres waiting at the end.

Ride the plan by power or perceived effort. Do not bank a tailwind split. A flat course still punishes a headwind spent chasing lost time.

Zeewolde and return towards Lumièrepark

Take the middle-distance turn rather than a second full-distance lap

As the loop closes back towards the city, stop chasing speed. Finish your planned nutrition and get the legs turning over before you're racked at Lumierepark, because the run puts you straight into noise.

Finish the bottle you planned. Let cadence rise before T2.

Almere city centre, opening run

Keep the first steps deliberately quieter than the crowd

Out of Lumièrepark, Almere's city centre and the Weerwater paths bring the noise quickly. Enjoy it, but give your legs time to remember how to run after 94 windy bike kilometres. The first lap isn't a time trial.

Shorten your stride out of T2. Take the early aid stations deliberately.

Weerwater, later city run

Use repeated passes to decide what you can sustain

The second lap past the same lake and streets gives you a clear checkpoint on how the day is really going. If it has gone well, decide deliberately whether to push; if it hasn't, protect the finish rather than forcing it.

Compare lap 2 to lap 1 honestly. Keep the finish decision yours, not the crowd's.

What to check in race week

Check the Weerwater buoys, entry from the Esplanade and your routes through Lumièrepark. The middle-distance bike is 94 km, not the usual 90, and it has its own turn away from the full course. Work out the wind, run-loop turns and aid before race morning.

Build the legs.
Practise the decisions.

A finish range gives you something to work towards. The preparation is specific to this race: Training has to make steady aero work sustainable in changing wind and make the first noisy kilometre of the run feel deliberately calm.

I’m Tom. With Sense Endurance Coaching, I’ll build that preparation around your life, follow how you respond and adjust the work as you get closer to Almere.
