IRONMAN 70.3 Omaha.
Race Omaha on your terms.

Omaha's previous course began at Lake Cunningham and ended with a run across the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge. There is something memorable about crossing a state line on foot. There is nothing useful about reaching that bridge after spending too much on the Nebraska bike roads.

What could you race?

I’m Tom, the coach behind Sense Endurance Coaching. Tell me where you are now and I’ll show you what a strong day in Omaha could look like.

Let’s build your race

Let’s build your race.

Your age and race category help me estimate where that performance could place you. They don’t determine how fast I think you can race.

Change units

The bridge is worth saving your running legs for.

The inaugural Omaha route took swimmers through Lake Cunningham, riders over open Nebraska roads and runners across the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge between two states. That bridge is a wonderful finish-line memory to aim for. Ride the countryside steadily enough to enjoy reaching it. The 2027 course still needs confirmation.

Lake Cunningham, previous 70.3 swim

Find a steady lake stroke before the bike begins

Lake Cunningham's calm, current-free water rewards an honest, controlled opening rather than fighting for position.

Seed honestly. Settle into rhythm.

Nebraska farmland, first bike section

Keep power measured when the roads open up

Nearly 900 metres of climbing makes Omaha's bike more than a gentle roll. Pace the rises by effort instead of chasing the race's fast-looking reputation.

Cap opening effort. Fuel early.

Omaha regional roads, later bike section

Let prairie wind change speed without chasing it

Finish planned nutrition as the route heads toward the Missouri River and T2, holding effort through whatever climbing remains.

Stay patient. Finish planned nutrition.

Give your stride time to settle

Use the first out-and-back over the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge into Council Bluffs to settle before committing to pace.

Control the first aid station. Keep the first lap easy.

Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, prior run crossing

Keep enough energy for the crossing and return

Only progress on the second lap once the first has held together.

Check posture. Choose the last move late.

What to check in race week

Check the 2027 race date and actual Lake Cunningham swim, open-road bike, bridge crossing and finishing run before organising travel. The detailed route belongs to the inaugural 2026 event; confirm the new aid, transitions and any exposed wind sections.

Build the legs.
Practise the decisions.

A finish range gives you something to work towards. The preparation is specific to this race: lake swimming, consistent open-road watts and a controlled riverside run are rehearsed so a bridge crossing can be enjoyed without a desperate finish.

I’m Tom. With Sense Endurance Coaching, I’ll build that preparation around your life, follow how you respond and adjust the work as you get closer to Omaha.
