What could you race?

I’m Tom, the coach behind Sense Endurance Coaching. Tell me where you are now and I’ll show you what a strong day in Geneva and Seneca Lake could look like.

Let’s build your race

Let’s build your race.

Your age and race category help me estimate where that performance could place you. They don’t determine how fast I think you can race.

Change units

Musselman is decided by what you refuse to spend on the bike.

The terrain keeps changing enough to tempt small surges all afternoon. Let the hills change your speed, not your commitment to the run.

Seneca Lake · rolling start

Choose the right feet, not the fastest feet.

Start with athletes swimming your pace and let the opening settle before you ask for more.

Seed honestly. Settle into rhythm.

Finger Lakes · away from Seneca

Climb without turning the race into a climb.

The route ascends out of the Seneca Lake valley toward Cayuga Lake. Hold effort rather than pushing to make time on the climb.

Cap opening effort. Fuel early.

Finger Lakes · back toward Geneva

Use easier road to eat, drink and reset.

Let the descent back to Seneca Lake recover your legs and finish planned nutrition before the two-loop run.

Stay patient. Finish planned nutrition.

Geneva waterfront · first loop

Make the first lap feel almost too patient.

Let the undulating college paths feel easy, not fast.

Easy first aid station. Check posture.

Geneva · second loop

Only now decide how much race is left.

Only progress once the first loop has held together.

Stay tall. Choose the last move late.

What to check in race week

Check the final swim map and water temperature, then study the latest bike profile rather than treating all 90 kilometres as one average effort. Decide where you will cap the climbs and where you will use easier road to finish nutrition before T2.

Make your finish prediction and I can send this plan to you in race week.

Build the legs.
Practise the decisions.

A finish range gives you something to work towards. The preparation is specific to this race: Train the ability to hold a ceiling on rolling terrain, keep fuelling while effort changes and start the run without needing to repair the bike. Musselman rewards athletes who can make a varied course feel controlled.

I’m Tom. With Sense Endurance Coaching, I’ll build that preparation around your life, follow how you respond and adjust the work as you get closer to Geneva and Seneca Lake.
